LizaCutz is the illustration practice of a graphic designer Liza Borovskaya-Brodskaya.
The paper collages explore the arrangement of unique shapes and the re-assembling of leftover papercuts into dynamic, playful and tactile compositions.
Spolia refers to (architectural) fragments taken out of their original contexts and reused elsewhere.
Touching on the original notion of spolium as something torn away, like cork or leather, ripping and cutting create new counter-shapes.
The cutouts of previous collages can often be found in LizaCutz’s subsequent works, where they form new compositions while still pointing at previous works, even if discreetly.”
